The Story
The story behind HOPE
The idea for House of Peace came at a dinner party. Four friends, Alexander Kølpin, Kasper Winding, Michael Eide and Morten Langebæk, wanted to join forces in a quest with a goal and vision that was bigger than them. They dreamed of peace and of creating a place for peace.
The private institution House of Peace (HOPE) was founded in 2003, since then, HOPE has been working on the creation of a monumental building, a symbol of peace. The realisation of House of Peace will be the fruit of a small seed planted in 2003. At HOPE, we dream that this small seed will spread ideas and reflections among all the people who will visit House of Peace.
"Give peace a chance."
The context
All around the world, work is being done to bring peace: The United Nations, international peace organisations, community-based initiative groups and individuals are all working in the name of peace. These initiatives are indispensable, and their results impressive.
HOPE wants to add to their work through an unconventional and eye-catching initiative that uses art and architecture as its driving force. Artistic masterpieces do not die. On the contrary, they grow stronger over time. Our vision is to construct a building which will serve both as an active peace symbol as well as a space for personal reflection. A house of peace, whose artistic and architectural excellence will create enduring respect and attention worldwide. A symbol that will constantly remind people of the important role that each of us has to play in promoting peace. An architectural masterpiece that will serve as a neutral and unbiased background for the individual's wish for peace.
The Board
"In HOPE, a group of people have worked together for more than 12 years, because they believe in what they do. Hopefully, we can transform this passion into a meaningful message, and into a place that can provide a peaceful opportunity for insight and contemplation."
Kasper Winding, Chairman
Currently he resides in Paris and is the proud father to 4 children.
The HOPE project is the culmination of his determination to bring the world together through love and art as well as his deeply held belief that we need to focus on our “communality” rather than our differences.
"Some of us arrogantly take peace for granted, while others have almost forgotten it. It is my hope that the The Cloud will remind us all that peace is something we all carry within us. It is free, and it is there to be shared."
Jesper Rasmussen
I believe that the project, with its beautiful message of peace, is very necessary both in a broad global sense and on a more personal level.
The construction, with its beautiful, unique, and spectacular architecture, offers a rare invitation to contemplation and reflection, which will create an environment that will surely fulfill its purpose and facilitate both reflection and thoughts on peacemaking.”

Camilla Richter-Friis van Deurs
Architect MAA, Ph.D.
As Copenhagen's Chief City Architect 2019-2024, Camilla oversaw the city’s urban development and architecture with a focus on creating great urban spaces for everyday life. She has set the tone for the sustainable transition in Copenhagen's construction industry, where transformation of existing structures rather than demolition, recycling of materials and new biogenic resources have become part of the architectural vocabulary.
With her experience from the City of Copenhagen, Camilla has a unique understanding of political processes and ensuring that political ambitions are concretized in both strategy and in built projects through the regulatory process. As Chief City Architect she chaired the celebration of Copenhagen as UNESCO UIA World Capital of Architecture 2023 and served on the Coordinating Council, UIA World Congress of Architects CPH 2023.
Camilla is appointed as an adjunct professor at the Aarhus School of Architecture, where she teaches urban planning, and serves as vice president of the Danish Academy Council, which is the advisor to the Danish National Government on issues of architecture, planning and visual arts. She is an active participant in both the Danish and international professional debate on sustainable architecture and urban development as well as contributing to books and research articles.
Before joining the City of Copenhagen Camilla was a partner at Gehl Architects and responsible for projects in global cities such as New York, Oslo, Oman, Sydney, Toronto, Mexico City, Chongqing and Melbourne.
In April 2024 Camilla became a partner in Nordic Office of Architecture, one of the Nordic region's largest architectural firms with 500+ architects and offices in Denmark, Norway and Iceland.
Camilla has participated as a judge in more than 25 Danish and international architectural competitions. Through her professional career she has collaborated with a number of internationally renowned architects such as Dominique Perrault, Bjarke Ingles, Tatiana Bilbao and Daniel Libeskind.
“The House of Peace project has the potential to be a great urban attractor on the designated waterfront. As a cultural landmark building of extraordinary architectural quality HOPE will redefine the urban area – popularly dubbed as the “Guggenheim Bilbao effect” – by inviting both locals and tourists to visit the site, and thus instigating significant urban transformation, revitalization, and potentially economic growth through the construction of the iconic architectural landmark. I look forward to supporting the project through my participation in the HOPE Board”
